Helmut Leder is awarded the Gustav Theodor Fechner Award

Helmut Leder will receive the Gustav Theodor Fechner Award for Outstanding Contributions to Empirical Aesthetics of the IAEA (International Association of Empirical Aesthetics), a lifetime achievement award, at the 2024 IAEA Conference in Mallorca, Spain, which will take place from May 8-10, 2024!

Helmut Leder is Professor of Visual Empirical Aesthetics (of General Psychology) at the University of Vienna, where, in 2004, he founded the first international research focus in Empirical Aesthetics,studying aesthetic experience with a variety of objects, often art, and contexts ranging from neurophysiological laboratory studies to museum and outdoor field studies. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers (GS<17240cit, hi=71), more than a dozen funded projects in Empirical Aesthetics. From 2014-18 he was the president of the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics (IAEA), and in Vienna he is also the Speaker of the interdisciplinary Vienna Cognitive Science Hub. He was a Founding International Member of the Global Institute of Advanced Studies (GIAS at NYU), a 2018 Fellow at the Italian Academy of Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University. In 2020, he received the Arnheim Award of the APA American Psychological Association, Div.10, for Outstanding Achievement in Psychology and the Arts; in 2024, in 2024 he will receive the Fechner Award for Lifetime Achievement of the IAEA.
