New Posts - June 22th 2022

The University of Vienna is looking for two post-doctoral researchers to work on EU-funded H2020 projects linked to the public understanding of risk in the Environmental Psychology Group and Cognitive Science Hub.

The posts require excellent knowledge of psychological research methods and analytical approaches. International experience (especially with EU projects) is desirable, as is knowledge of the environmental psychology and risk perception literature. These projects require someone with good social and communication skills willing to travel to meet project partners, someone who can self-organise, set priorities and work task- and output-oriented. The posts are based in Vienna.

Post 1: GOLIAT-Project: Public understanding of the health risks from 5G Mobile Phone Technology. The overall aim of the project (led by ISGlobal in Barcelona) is to characterize and monitor RF-EMF exposure, in particular 5G, provide novel insights into potential causal neuropsychological and biological effects, and understand risk perception and communication through citizen engagement using an integrative and transdisciplinary pan-European approach. This post will focus on the last of these issues and primarily use qualitative interview methods with experts and members of the lay public to develop “mental models” of how different people think 5G technology could affect health. The post-holder will also work closely with WP6 lead University of Exeter to contribute to developing a large international survey on these perceptions, based on the results of the interview results. Prior experience conducting and analysing health or risk perception-related interviews would be preferred. The post is available full-time (100%) for 18-Months (or part-time equivalent) from 15th Sept 2022.

Post 2: SOS-ZEROPOL2030 Project: Public perception of sources of and solutions for marine pollutants. The overall aim of the Source to Seas - Zero Pollution 2030 (SOS-ZEROPOL2030, led by University College Cork, Ireland) project is to develop a holistic zero pollution framework that will guide the EU towards achieving zero pollution in European seas by 2030. Marine pollution occurs as a direct result of human activities on both land and in the marine environment. Therefore, this post will focus on developing and analysing multi-country surveys targeting stakeholders and members of the public with respect to their views about several priority contaminants and pollutants such as micro-plastics and chemicals as well as best-practices for dealing with these. Prior experience developing and analysing survey data is required. Familiarity with statistical techniques needed for multiple country analyses (e.g. mixed effects models) would be preferred. The post is available for 13-Months full-time (or part-time equivalent) from 15th Sept 2022.

Although these are two separate posts, the project leads work closely together and the posts have considerable overlap in skills. We could offer the right candidate both posts at a reduced 50% FTE, effectively covering them 100% over 31 months.
